What is Coaching?

According to the International Coaching Federation (ICF), Coaching is partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.

Professional coaches provide an ongoing partnership designed to help clients produce fulfilling results in their personal and professional lives. Coaches help people improve their performances and enhance the quality of their lives.

Coaches are trained to listen, to observe and to customize their approach to individual client needs. They seek to elicit solutions and strategies from the client; they believe the client is naturally creative and resourceful. The coach's job is to provide support to enhance the skills, resources, and creativity that the client already has.

"You cannot teach a man anything; you can only help him to find it within himself."  ~Galileo

What's the difference between Life Coaching and Therapy?

Life Coaching focuses on the "What now?  What's next?" by starting in the present and moving forward, developing the person to engage life with new behaviors and ultimately to acheive his or her definitions of success.  In Coaching, the emphasis is on the present and future.  It is solution oriented.

Therapy focuses on the "Why? From Where?" by starting in the past to help a person heal from past issues.  Therapy focuses on accompanying feelings and emotions, patterns or behavior and any self-destructive tendencies.  In Therapy, the emphasis is on the past and present.  It is problem oriented.

What's the difference between Recovery Coaching and Sponsorship?

Recovery Coaching concentrates on specified goals that relate to the client's own individual growth and personal development.  The spiritual principles and steps from the 12 step recovery program are an underlying  foundation to this type of coaching, however it is not the focus.  It is solution oriented based on what works best for the client.

Sponsorship focuses on the specified 12 steps of the recovery program.  The main purpose of the Sponsor is to guide their sponsee through the 12 steps of the recovery program.  The clients learn how to work the steps and apply them in all areas of their lives.
